Laurie Stansfield

The delightful Laurie Stansfield is besotted with stories. In her big illustration bag, lies a precious award from Pan Macmillan, known as a ‘highly commended,’ for her story ‘Red and the Boy.’ Next to this, a shiny BA (hons) Illustration degree sits, which actuated her love of Bristol. In the heart of the beating city, she draws, reads and creates children’s stories with characters of all different textures. Pencils and paint are used to create her images. She likes how hand-drawn, expressive, images reveal a playful, human-touch, which nicely suits the themes of her silly, yet moralistic stories. (She knows that she’s a silly human so you won’t need to point it out.)

Aside from stories, you can often find her work on chalk boards too! Fun images and playful text communicate information in the friendliest manner. Her ability can range from photographic realism to bizarre childish characters and fancy but legible text. In truth, she’d pick up a pencil at the slightest encouragement.
